D. Jason Childress and Kimberly Howland successfully defended a medical malpractice claim against an internist related to his treatment of a patient’s deep vein thrombosis with anti-coagulation therapy, which therapy included the drug Coumadin.

The plaintiff claimed the internist negligently prescribed Coumadin and, subsequently, failed to properly monitor the patient, resulting in a brain bleed two months later. The plaintiff filed suit in the Circuit Court of Hinds County, Mississippi.

Jason and Kimberly obtained summary judgment in favor of the internist on all of the plaintiff’s claims. On appeal by the plaintiff, Jason and Kimberly obtained an affirmance of the trial court’s decision by the Mississippi Supreme Court.
